It's a Barn Quilt

On a recent trip to Iowa I saw an amazing Quilt! It is 20 feet by 20 feet and it's painted on plywood. Here are a couple of pictures. They are painted while the plywood is on the ground, not hanging on the barn. If you are having any trouble visualizing the size it's approximately the size of a 2 car garage!

The fabric was all hand painted with textile colors. The roadrunners and cactus were hand appliqued to the background. There was "thread painting" on the roadrunners and cactus. The cactus blooms were done with free motion embroidery and it was machine quilted.

PrismaColor Pencil Info

PrismaColor Pencil Storage Question-Sanford Consumer Affairs
The company's artist says to tell you to keep those colored pencils in a controlled environment, room temp if possible. Anything above 90 degree's is not recommended, but they will survive if you have to go over 90 degrees for traveling in your car. This is VERY important in Arizona.

Colored Chalkboard Paint

Material:

3 teaspoons acrylic paint [color of choice]
1-1/2 teaspoons glazing medium [water based]
1/2 teaspoon powder tile grout [Not Sanded]

How to:
The single most frequently asked question is where can I buy colored chalk board paint? Unfortunately, this product was discontinued a few years back and I have not been able to find another... so with a little effort, I managed to put together a recipe that works! Now you can make your own chalk board paint in any color you choose and don't have to settle for the standard black and green.

Mix together all of the ingredients listed above, blend really well and that's it. You now have chalkboard paint! You should only mix as much as you will need for your project. It doesn't keep well, but can be stored in an air tight container for a few hours. After a longer period of time, the paint will begin to thicken a little and become a bit brittle.

Helpful Hints:
Apply your paint with a regular paint brush and allow each coat of paint to dry completely, before applying the next. After each coat of paint, gently sand the paint with a 400 grit or higher grit sandpaper and wipe away any dust. This will help keep your painted surface nice and smooth.

You also need to condition your chalkboard, once you have finished painting. Be sure your paint is completely dry. Place a piece of chalk on the side and rub over the entire chalkboard surface, covering the entire area with chalk. Using a felt cloth, wipe off the chalk you just applied. With a slightly damp cloth, wipe the chalkboard clean.
Now your chalkboard is ready!

Multimedia Art Board

While in Las Vegas, I took a class with Tina Norris. She is a colored pencil/watercolor pencil instructor. We used a new product called Multimedia Art Board. It comes in black or white and various sizes. We were first given a small piece of the art board. It just snapped when you applied pressure to fold it. The teacher took the art board and placed it in hot water and let it soak. After a few minutes we all got a piece of damp art board for class. We used watercolor pencils for our project and the surface was soft. It was a wonderful surface to use, I was really amazed. By the time we were done drawing our pieces, the surface was almost dry. I have never used watercolor pencils before and I don't know how water is normally applied, but this was very easy to use.

I suggest everyone check out the web site at www.multimediaartboard.com. I can bring a sample of the art board and my project to the next meeting if anyone is interested.
