About Our Chapter
The Cactus Wren Decorative Artists chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters was chartered in 1976 with 10 members.
The painting mediums enjoyed by the members include acrylic, oil, watercolor, colored pencil and fabric painting. The membership is made up of beginning painters through national teachers.
Our purpose, as well as the purpose of the SDP, is to stimulate interest in and appreciation for decorative painting; to recognize diversity of and excellence in the art form; and to serve as the resource center for all aspects of decorative painting. Decorative painting is a diverse art form utilizing a variety of techniques and media to decorate functional and non-functional surfaces. Because of the systematic methods employed, contemporary decorative painting is a highly teachable art form. The patterns or freehand designs allow a high degree of success without academic training or inherent drawing ability.
